Romania Election Boss Faces Corruption Charge

Prosecutors from Romania's National Anticorruption Directorate on Tuesday arrested the head of the Permanent Electoral Authority, AEP, Ana Maria Patru, and charged her with influence peddling and money laundering.

Patru, 40, faces three accounts of influence peddling and two accounts of money laundering committed between 2007 and 2015.

Romanian Anti-Graft Prosecutors Probe Electoral Authority

National Anticorruption Directorate prosecutors carried out searches on Tuesday at the Permanent Electoral Authority, AEP headquarters in Bucharest.

Their target was the head of the AEP, Ana Maria Patru, who according to Anticorruption Directorate sources is under investigation for alleged influence peddling and possible money laundering committed from 2008 to 2015.

PM Ponta: Let us mobilise ourselves for legislation banning exportation of unprocessed wood

Prime Minister Victor Ponta on Monday announced having informed Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Valeriu Zgonea and Senate Chairman Calin Popescu Tariceanu about the need for the passage either of an emergency ordinance or of a draft law to ban exportation of unprocessed wood.

Blaga: State budget law created huge discrepancies among counties

Democratic Liberal Party (PDL; merged with the National Liberal Party - PNL to form new PNL) chairman, Vasile Blaga, has stated, on Friday, at the end of PDL's National Steering College meeting, that the state budget law for this year created "huge discrepancies among counties".

Dragnea states that Geoana and Vanghelie sabotaged PSD during electoral campaign

The executive chairman of the Social Democrat Party (PSD), Liviu Dragnea, stated, on Wednesday evening, that the main reason for which Mircea Geoana and Marian Vanghelie were expelled from the party was that they sabotaged the activity ongoing during the presidential election campaign, it being "the straw that broke the camel's back" due to "several reasons" that appeared previously.

Parliament approves filling eight vacancies in Administration Council of the SRR

The deputies and senators of Romania's Parliament have approved on Saturday, in joint sitting, the filling of eight vacancies in the Administration Council of the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Corporation (SRR).

381 MPs voted in favor of the candidate proposals while 22 MPs voted against, out of a total of 403 valid votes expressed.

Woman Takes Over Romania's Opposition Liberals

The National Liberal Party, PNL, Romania's biggest opposition party, elected Alina Gorghiu as its new leader on Thursday, replacing Klaus Iohannis, who resigned as head of the PNL to become President of Romania.

She won 48 votes in an internal meeting of party leaders. Her main opponent, a former Transport Minister, Ludovic Orban, got 28 votes.

Klaus Iohannis pays visit to Chisinau

President-elect Klaus Iohannis pays a visit to Chisinau on Friday, on which occasion he will meet Republic of Moldova President Nicolae Timofti and Democratic Liberal Party Chairman Vlad Filat.

Klaus Iohannis will be accompanied by National Liberal Party (PNL) Co-Chairman Vasile Blaga and by Liberals' First Deputy Chairman Mihai-Razvan Ungureanu.
