Record highs scorch the globe as Europe prepares for heatwave peak
More temperature records were expected to tumble on Tuesday as Europe awaited the peak of a punishing heatwave and wildfires scorched swathes of the Northern Hemisphere, forcing the evacuation of 1,200 children close to a Greek seaside resort.
Scorching heatwave threatens to break top temperatures
Scorching heat across the Northern Hemisphere threatened to break records and whip up wildfires on Monday as the dire consequences of global warming take shape.
Parts of Europe, Asia and North America were preparing for historic heat with health warnings and evacuations.

On the official Twitter account, the European Commission published a video recorded by the Sentinel-3 satellite, which was launched into space by the European Space Agency.
"In the Spanish region of Extremadura, on July 11, a temperature higher than 60 degrees Celsius was measured on the earth's surface," they stated in the announcement.

Summer has just begun in the Northern Hemisphere but a brutal heat wave is already gripping parts of Europe, China and the United States, where record temperatures expected this weekend are a stark illustration of the dangers of a warming climate.

Europe's space telescope targets universe's dark mysteries
Europe's Euclid space telescope is scheduled to blast off Saturday on the first-ever mission aiming to shed light on two of the universe's greatest mysteries: dark energy and dark matter.

The object, named 2023 DZ2, was discovered a month ago.
As predicted by scientists, it passed within 175,000km of the Earth on March 25 after flying past the Moon, BBC News has reported.

Astronaut pens letter to Turkish girl from space
A child from the Central Anatolian province of Kayseri has ranked first in a painting competition organized by the European Space Agency (ESA) after drawing the picture of Italian astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti, receiving a letter of thanks from her.
İlknur Sinem Sezer, a fourth-grade primary school student, applied to ESA's painting contest named "Living in Space."
