Nationwide strikes in Greece against measures in new memorandum

Greece will face widespread industrial actions starting from Wednesday, May 17 with the country’s largest unions, General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) and the Civil Servants’ Confederation (ADEDY) leading numerous social groups and professionals in protests against the new wave of harsh cuts and austerity measures the Greek government plans to pass in parliament.

MRB poll gives ND near 13-point lead over SYRIZA

A new poll published Wednesday gave opposition New Democracy a 12.9-point lead over ruling SYRIZA.

In the survey, conducted by MRB from December 2-9, 29.1 percent of respondents said they would vote for the conservatives in the event of a general elections, as opposed to 16.2 percent backing the leftist party.

ADEDY 24-hour strike underway (photos-videos)

Omonia square in downtown Athens has been shut down due to protests against the government’s plans concerning labour reforms, after the Union of Greek Civil Servants (ADEDY) have called a 24-hour strike. The Greek Communist Party’s (KKE) union branch of PAME have gathered at Omonia, while the demonstration of ADEDY members started at 11am.
