Istanbul deputy police chief arrested shortly after being released over 'drug trafficking'

A court ordered to arrest an Istanbul deputy police chief on Feb. 9 after issuing an arrest warrant, one day after he was released after testifying on charges of drug trafficking, Doğan News Agency has reported.

The suspect, identified only by the initials Ö.C., was sent to the Haseki Training and Research Hospital for a medical examination before referring to the court.

Drug-filled condoms found in man's stomach in Istanbul airport

Police in Istanbul have seized one kilogram of drug-filled condoms found in a man's stomach at Istanbul's Atatürk International Airport after obtaining information gathered on drug smugglers, Doğan News Agency has reported.  

Police on Jan. 24 detained the 45-year-old Ecuadorian man, Alfredo Demeceo, in the airport, but could not draw conclusions after initial searches. 

Escaped pet monkey attacks six-year-old boy in Istanbul park

A pet monkey escaped from a balcony of a house and attacked children playing in a park in the Fatih district of Istanbul on Sept. 22.

The monkey bit a six-year-old child in the park, inflicting serious injuries and prompting his mother to file a complaint against the owner of the monkey.

11 detained over attack on pro-gov't newspaper offices in Istanbul

Istanbul's anti-terror police have detained 11 suspects in connection with the Feb. 11 attacks on the offices of dailies Yeni ?afak and Yeni Akit. Reports indicate that the suspects are linked to an offshoot of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) called the United Freedom Forces (BÖG). 

Russian tourist stabbed in Istanbul

A Russian tourist has been stabbed and hospitalized in Istanbul's touristic Beyo?lu district after fighting a group of people for an unknown reason. 

The 27-year-old tourist, who could not immediately be identified, arrived in Istanbul ahead of a UEFA Europa League football match to support his team, Lokomotiv Moscow, against Be?ikta?.
