Court re-arrests Istanbul mayor's son-in-law, former police chief over Gülen links

An Istanbul court on June 17 ordered the arrest of Ömer Faruk Kavurmacı, the son-in-law of Istanbul mayor Kadir Topbaş, and former Istanbul police chief Hüseyin Çapkın on June 17 for the second time after they had been previously arrested over links to the Gülen movement blamed on the July 2016 failed coup attempt.

Prosecutors order detention of 78 Bank Asya execs for Gülen links

Istanbul police have launched an operation to detain 78 former employees of the now-closed Bank Asya, including the lender's top executives, as part of a probe launched by Istanbul prosecutors into the network of the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ).

Some 42 of the suspects were detained on June 16, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

An Istanbul prosecutor sought three aggravated life imprisonments for 15 suspects including former Istanbul Governor Hüseyin Avni Mutlu and former Istanbul Police Chief Hüseyin Çapkın on June 8 over their suspected links to the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), Doğan News Agency has reported. 

Turkish police launch operation against hidden camera sellers in Istanbul

Istanbul police have launched an operation against hidden camera sellers in the Şişli and Fatih districts of the city. 

Anti-smuggling police determined several businesses selling the cameras, which were brought to Turkey illegally, and conducted operations, Doğan News Agency reported on June 6. 

Istanbul police detain 15 over mafia clashes that killed one, injured seven

Police on June 4 detained 15 people in relation to a deadly mafia armed clash the previous day that killed one person and injured seven others in the Istanbul district of Güngören.

A group driving a white colored car had on June 3 fired upon a group of others in front of a cafe on a busy street in Güngören, killing a man identified as Birol Çakar. 

Warrants issued for 144, including soldiers over alleged use of ByLock app

Istanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office has issued detention warrants for a total of 144 people, including military personnel, prosecutors and police officers, for allegedly using ByLock, an encrypted messaging application said to have been used by members of the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), state-run Anadolu Agency reported on May 23.
