The decision by the Kosovo government at the weekend to introduce new reciprocity measures against Serbia has sharply divided opinion at home and abroad, with the EU slating the move and some domestic leaders, including the President, also condemning it.

Grenell said that everyone should respect the decision of the Constitutional Court on the decree of President Hashim Thaci pertaining to the appointment of Avdullah Hoti as the Prime Minister Designate of the new Kosovo Government, Koha reports.

Going Nowhere Quickly

If the dialogue on normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia was not complicated enough, the COVID-19 pandemic has added another layer of complexity. So has the recent vote of no confidence in the Kosovo Government.

Serbia has given a grudging response to the Kosovo government's decision on Tuesday to lift the 100-per-cent tariff imposed on imports from Serbia and Bosnia - fully removing the tariff for Bosnia while replacing tariffs more gradually with Serbia in line with a new principle of reciprocity.

The overthrow of the Kosovo government under Albin Kurti on Wednesday night has created a fluid political situation, similar to that after the last election, creating the need for the formation of a new government, without excluding the possibility of new elections.

The Kosovo government led by Albin Kurti was overthrown on Wednesday by a no-confidence motion initiated by the junior party in the governing coalition, the Democratic League of Kosovo, LDK.

The request for the abolition of the 100% tariffs on Serbian goods was very clear, as well as a warning that, until they did, relations with the Kosovo authorities would not be restored, and the possibility of reconsidering other, not only security, co-operation with Pristina was mentioned.

Grenell is coming to Belgrade tomorrow to talk to the Serbian President.
He met in Pristina today with Albin Kurti, as prime minister-designate to form a new Kosovo Government.

The new route would considerably cut travel time between Belgrade and Pristina, with the bus between the two cities currently taking around six hours.
