Thousands Evacuated in Turkey as Fires Reach Power Plant

"Flames have entered the thermal power plant," the Mayor of Milas, Muhammet Tokat, said on Wednesday night on Twitter, adding that the staff were evacuated.

Greeks cut back on energy and food to pay taxes
Greek households used 56 million litres less petrol during the first six months of the year, according to data from the Ministry for Environment, while the annual volume of petrol consumption fell by 4%.

Government plans new property surcharge
The Greek government plans to burden taxpayers with a new property surcharge called ‘Building Identity’. The Ministry for Environment has included the new provision in its draft bill that has been presented for public discussion till September 22. The tax is expected to start from 400 Euros and will require the approval of a professional engineer.
