Turkish soldier killed in explosion in northern Iraq

A Turkish soldier was killed in northern Iraq when a bomb planted by terrorists went off, Turkey's National Defense Ministry said on Oct. 25. 

The ministry said in a statement that another soldier was wounded in the Operation Pençe-Yıldırım area due to the blast from the improvised explosive device (IED).

Turkish soldier succumbs to injuries from northern Iraq bomb blast

A Turkish soldier was killed in northern Iraq after he was wounded in a bomb blast, the National Defense Ministry said on Sept. 17. 

Infantry specialist sergeant Umit Solak was seriously injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off in the Avasin region, the ministry said a statement.

He succumbed to his injures in hospital, it added.

Turkey neutralizes 7 PKK terrorists in N Iraq, Syria

Turkish security forces "neutralized" at least seven PKK terrorists in both northern Iraq and northern Syria, the National Defense Ministry said on Aug. 21.

The Turkish Armed Forces and National Intelligence Organization targeted three terrorists with airstrikes in Iraq's Metina district near the Turkish border, the ministry said on Twitter.

Turkey neutralizes 8 PKK terrorists in northern Iraq

At least eight PKK terrorists have been "neutralized" in northern Iraq, across the Turkish border, the National Defense Ministry said on Aug. 16.

"Number of terrorists neutralized in the operation area [northern Iraq's Metina region] increased to eight in the last 24 hours," the ministry said on Twitter, adding that operations continue with determination.

Turkey says 37 migrants rescued after boat sinks off Crete

At least 37 people have been rescued after a boat carrying 45 migrants capsized southeast of the Greek island of Crete, Turkish authorities said on July 23.

The boat sank at 9.10 p.m. local time (1800GMT) on July 22 in the search and rescue area of Turkey due to severe weather conditions, the Transport and Infrastructure Ministry said in a statement.

Turkish Navy saves 80 irregular migrants in Mediterranean

The Turkish Navy rescued at least 80 irregular migrants off the coast of Libya, the National Defense Ministry said on July 18.

The Turkish frigate TCG Gediz was on patrol off the coast of the North African nation when it learned that a boat carrying irregular migrants was drifting towards the Tunisian coast, said a ministry statement.
