Bulgaria MPs Remain Divided ahead of Vote on Education Min Candidate

As lawmakers are set to vote on the candidacy of Meglena Kuneva to become Bulgaria's next Education Minister, it is not clear how much support she will gain.

Kuneva was endorsed by junior coalition partner Reformist Bloc after Prime Minister Boyko Borisov asked her successor, Todor Tanev, to resign amid controversy that a draft school curriculum sparked in society.

Bulgaria's Parliament has given the green light to a package of bills setting next year's state budget and overhauling expenditure for 2015.

Revenues for 2016 are estimated at BGN 20.6 B, and expenditure will be BGN 10.97 B.

Plovdiv's incumbent mayor Ivan Totev has won a second term in office, after a night of uncertainty as vote count suggested he and rival Slavcho Atanasov was running neck-to-neck.

With 100% of the voter protocols having been counted, Totev has 50.78% of ballots 1 lead of 1502 votes.
