Ponta Government

The new ministers of the Ponta Cabinet were sworn in on Wednesday, at the Cotroceni presidential Palace, in front of incumbent president, Traian Basescu.

The Council of Union Representatives of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) this Saturday approved by a broad majority (with just three votes against and seven abstentions) the proposal that the Union should pull out of government. The initial proposal for this move had been made on November 27, in Cluj, by UDMR's Standing Council.

First Deputy Chairman of the National Liberal Party Catalin Predoiu has stated on Wednesday that the party he is leading will reject the state budget on 2015, yet he mentioned that the Liberals will submit amendments to this document.

UDMR ethnic Hungarian party, a junior partner in Romania's government coalition, has decided to leave it following the defeat of Social Democrat Prime Minister Victor Ponta in presidential elections.

Yet, Ponta's centre-left coalition will stay in power as its remaining members - the Social Democrats and two junior partners - together control 332 of the 579 seats in Parliament.

Chairman of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) Kelemen Hunor announced his formation will leave the government.

The decision was made in the northwestern city of Cluj-Napoca, by the UDMR Standing Council, after more than five hours of debates.

A final decision will be made by the Union Representatives Council (CRU) to take place on December 13.

Pension indexation, which is now sold as a pension increase, is compulsory by law, the Christian Liberal Alliance (ACL) candidate in the presidential elections, Klaus Iohannis, said on Tuesday evening, giving guarantees that there would be no pension cuts if he became president.

The Christian Liberal Alliance (ACL) candidate for Romania's president, Klaus Iohannis, on Thursday evening said in a TV talk show, that there were premises for a possible fraud in the November 2 presidential elections and that could only be done by those holding power.

The Government has approved the draft laws regarding fiscal amnesty for the pensioners and mothers who have received child benefits and have become debtors not of their own doing, said Labor Minister Rovana Plumb on Tuesday at the Government House.

Romania is capable to take up in the next six years the more than EUR 22 bln allocated by the European Commission for the Cohesion Policy, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Regional Development Liviu Dragnea said on Tuesday.
