BELGRADE - Serbian Parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic convened a special parliament sitting for Wednesday, September 3, with the election of new economy minister and his oath-taking as the only item on the agenda.

NOVI SAD - Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Zorana Mihajlovic said Sunday that a new provincial government must be formed by the end of September in order to prevent further devastation of Vojvodina.

Sasa Vukasinovic, a deputy for the Progressive Party in the local assembly of Sabac, in western Serbia, has embarrassed the ruling party by saying he had now left after it failed to offer his son a job.

Vukasinovic, who was formerly a member of another political party, the United Regions of Serbia, URS, switched to the Progressives after the party took power in 2012.

With one in five people unemployed and pensioners outnumbering those in work, Serbia is struggling with a record budget deficit and could sink into bankruptcy.
      

BELGRADE - Those who threw objects at Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic at Gazimestan on Saturday were "in fact targeting Serbia, causing unforeseeable damage to everyone and eroding the reputation of our country", the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) has said in a statement.

Vladimir Pavicevic, of the opposition Nova Stranka (New Party), told a Friday debate in parliament that the case of Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic's plagiarism of parts of his PhD thesis "could not be more obvious".

BELGRADE - After three and a half hours of heated debate, the Serbian parliamentary committee on education, science, technological development and information society failed on Friday to adopt conclusions on alleged plagiarism in the doctoral thesis of Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic.
