US demands big NAFTA changes, setting stage for tough talks

The United States won't settle for cosmetic changes to the North American Free Trade Agreement, the top U.S. trade negotiator said, as negotiations to rework terms of the pact began.

U.S. President Donald Trump has called the 23-year-old trade pact the "worst" in history and vowed to fix it - or withdraw from it.

2016 confirmed as hottest year on record

Last year's global weather was the warmest since modern record keeping began in 1880, a U.S. government report said Aug. 10.

The 27th annual State of the Climate report, prepared by more than 450 scientists from nearly 60 countries under the National Oceanic and Atmospheric  Administration's watch, said 2016 marked the third straight year of record warmth.
