Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has said that an unmanned aircraft shot down by Turkish warplanes on Friday was made in Russia but didn't belong to that country.

"The downed drone is Russian-made but Russia has told us in a friendly manner that it doesn't belong to them," Davutoglu said in an interview with Turkish broadcaster Ahaber on Monday, according to Reuters

Turkish Air Force jets have shot down an unidentified drone in the country's air space near the border with Syria on Friday, Turkey's General Staff has announced.

Turkish jets have shot down an "aerial vehicle" near the Syrian border, the Turkish military said in a written statement on Oct. 16.

The target was an unmanned aerial vehicle and shot down in Turkish airspace before falling on the Turkish soil, according to military sources.

Turkey appealed to its NATO allies on Oct. 8 to shore up missile defences in the country aimed at shooting down Syrian rockets, as Germany said again that it will withdraw its Patriot batteries and the United States was set to do the same. 

NATO is now waiting for other nations to plug those gaps. 

U.S. Air Forces Central Command has started deploying search and rescue helicopters and airmen at Turkey?s southeastern Diyarbak?r Air Base in order to help with recovery operations in neighboring Iraq and Syria, it has announced.

Turkey has warned that it will react if Russia again violates Turkey's border with Syria after Russian aircraft breached Turkish airspace over the weekend, with Moscow saying the incident was not intentional but due to a "navigational error."

Russia has informed Turkey that the violation of Turkish airspace near the Syrian border on Oct. 3 was due to a ?navigation error,? according to Russian sources. 

Turkish fighter jets have hit outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) bases in northern Iraq in the latest in a series of aerial strikes against the outlawed organization amid an upsurge in violence against Turkish security personnel in Turkey's east and southeast.
