President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Dec. 10 that the government is set to increase the research and development (R&D) spending, raising its GDP ratio from 1 to 3 percent by 2023. "Turkey's gross domestic expenditure on research and development (GERD) has increased to 1.06 percent in 2016 compared to 0.54 in 2001. But it is not enough. The target is 3 percent.

Speaking on the last day of the Turkey-Africa Economic and Business Forum in Istanbul on Nov. 3, Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci said the future of the economy is in Africa and praised Turkey's "tight connection" to Africa. 

Turkish officials have expressed strong interest in boosting economic and trade relations with Africa at a key joint forum in Istanbul, where their African counterparts welcomed the call.

International business leaders will meet for two days in Istanbul starting Nov. 2 at the Turkey-Africa Economic and Business Forum, which highlights Turkey's strategy to enhance bilateral trade and economic relations with countries in Africa.
