Automotive sector tops Turkey's exports in 2019

Turkey's automotive sector topped the country's exports with $30.6 billion in 2019, while Istanbul was the largest exporter city in the country.

Overall exports increased 2 percent to reach $180.47 billion, hitting historical highs in 2019, according to data compiled by Anadolu Agency from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM).

Turkish Trade Center opens in New York's Manhattan

A new Turkish Trade Center was opened in New York's Manhattan on Sept. 21.

"New York is where everything begins, is designed, born and distributed all around the world," Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci said at the opening ceremony of the center.

"New York's gross domestic product is around $1.4 trillion, higher than the GDP of Russia," Zeybekci added.

Freezing Germany's weapons exports to Turkey would only strengthen the local Turkish arms industry, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said on Sept. 12. 

Çavuşoğlu was responding to remarks by his German counterpart, Sigmar Gabriel, who said Sept. 11 that Berlin was putting most arms exports to Turkey "on hold" due to recent bilateral tensions. 

Over half of export group chiefs to change

The Constitutional Court has reversed an application by Turkey's exporter unions to cancel a decision, which stipulates that any union chief cannot keep a presidency position more than two terms. 

As the top court rejected their application, presidents of more than half of the export unions will change soon, as reported by daily Habertürk on Aug. 15.

Turkey set to establish free zone on e-commerce, logistics next to Istanbul's third airport

Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci has said an e-commerce and logistics zone will be established next to Istanbul's third airport, which is currently under construction, while signaling new automotive investments and exports in the country.
