Galatasaray within an inch of league title

Galatasaray narrowly beat Gençlerbirli?i in the Turkish Spor Toto Super League match-up on May 16, as Dutch star midfielder Wesley Sneijder scored a vital goal on the road to the domestic title, with two games to spare.

The Lions' ace in offense, Sneijder, found the net in the penalty area in the 67th minute, with a rare inside-foot shot after an assist by striker Burak Y?lmaz. 

Fenerbahçe clings to top of league with Sivasspor win

Fenerbahçe narrowly beat Medicana Sivasspor 3-2 in an away match May 9 to sit in second place in the Turkish Spor Toto Super League, keeping pace with league-leading Galatasaray.  

Sivasspor took the lead in the eighth minute when Mehdi Taouil scored the opening goal of the game to put the home side up 1-0. Just a minute later, Fenerbahçe playmaker Diego replied to make it 1-1.

Beşiktaş defends top spot before New Year’s

Istanbul’s Beşiktaş maintained its top spot in the Turkish Spor Toto Super League, narrowly winning a difficult away game against Central Anatolia’s Torku Konyaspor.

After weathering an early home side storm in the first quarter, the Black and Whites found the net with its first attempt on goal through a 20th-minute strike from Gökhan Töre.

Fenerbahçe to defend seat despite defense injuries

Turkish Spor Toto Super League leader Fenerbahçe is set to defend its league lead at home on Nov. 8 against Black Sea underdogs Çaykur Rizespor, but a pileup of injuries threatens to make their task more difficult.

The Canaries were happy Nov. 6 for the arrival of right back Gökhan Gönül, who was injured during the Istanbul derby against Beşiktaş last week.

Fenerbahçe head coach Yanal resigns

Ersun Yanal, head coach of Turkish Spor Toto Super League's defending winners Fenerbahçe, has resigned from his post

Yanal quit his post on August 9 amid media reports of disagreements with club chairman Aziz Yıldırım.

"It's impossible to maintain my job in these circumstances as a head coach," Yanal said in a statement to Turkey's semi-official Anadolu Agency.
