Retail prices in Istanbul rise 3.9 percent in March

The monthly increase in retail prices in Istanbul slowed from 4.07 percent in February to 3.93 percent in March, according to data from the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (İTO).

On the back of the March reading, the annual inflation in Türkiye's megacity accelerated from 76.58 percent to 74.22 percent.

Prices rose by 15.42 percent compared with the end of 2023.

Foreign trade deficit shrinks 44 percent in February

The foreign trade deficit declined by 44.2 percent in February from a year ago, data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has shown.

The country's exports rose by 13.6 percent year-on-year to $21.08 billion, while imports plunged 9.2 percent to $27.85 billion, leading to a foreign trade deficit of $6.77 billion.

Social protection expenditure increases by 60.2 pct: TÜİK

Social protection expenditure rose by 60.2 percent to reach 1.29 trillion Turkish Liras in 2022 compared to the previous year, marking a substantial increase, data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) have shown.

Social protection aids constituted the majority of the expenditure, totaling 1.26 trillion liras, representing 98 percent of the total expenditure.

64 percent of elderly people feel happy, new TÜİK report reveals

Around 64.1 percent of individuals aged 65 and above in Türkiye feel happy, with the proportion of males expressing happiness at 64.9 percent and women at 63.5 percent, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has revealed.

Industrial production rises 1.1 percent in January

Industrial production increased by 1.1 percent in January from a year ago, according to the numbers of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK).

Mining and quarrying production rose by 4.9 percent, while the annual increase in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply was 8.4 percent, TÜİK said on March 12.
