Annual inflation ticks higher to 64.9 pct in January
Türkiye's annual inflation rate increased from 64.77 percent in December last year to 64.86 percent in January, the data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) showed on Feb. 5
The month-on-month consumer price inflation, which has been declining since August last year reserved course last month, but this was widely anticipated.
Retail prices rise 6.7 percent in Istanbul
Retail prices in Istanbul rose by 6.7 percent in January from a month earlier, accelerating from the 3.5 percent monthly increase recorded in December 2023.
The annual increase in retail prices quickened from 74.9 percent to 76.2 percent, the data from the Istanbul Changer of Commerce (İTO) showed.

Türkiye’s tourism revenues hit $54.3 billion last year
Türkiye's tourism revenues increased by 16.9 percent last year compared to 2022 to $54.3 billion, while foreign tourist arrivals rose more than 10 percent to 49.2 million, separate official data showed on Jan. 31.
Tourism revenues remained below the target of $55.6 billion, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek commented.
Some 28 pct of Turkish population tenants: Official data
Some 27.8 percent of the Turkish population resided in rented apartments in 2023, reflecting a slight increase from the previous year, the data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) have shown.
House sales in Türkiye see decline in 2023
House sales decreased by 17.5 percent to 1,225,926 in 2023 compared to the previous year, according to official numbers made public on Jan. 19.
Istanbul had the highest share of house sales with 16.2 percent, followed by Ankara with 9.3 percent and İzmir with 5.3 percent, Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) said.

Retail sales volume rises 13 percent
The retail sales volume at constant prices rose by 12.8 percent in November from a year ago, with the pace of year-on-year increase slowing from 13.4 percent in the previous month, according to the official data.

Climate change, invasive species threaten Türkiye’s agriculture
Climate change and invasive species are threatening production in Türkiye's agriculture sector, posing risks especially to cash crops, such as olive, hazelnut and pistachio.
The latest numbers from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) showed that the country's citrus production increased, while there was a steep decline in olive, hazelnut, pistachio and cotton production.
Annual inflation edges up to 64.8 percent
Türkiye's annual consumer price inflation rate quickened from 61.98 percent in November to 64.77 percent in December, the data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) showed on Jan. 3.
This was slightly below the Central Bank's revised forecast of 65 percent for the end of 2023.

Annual inflation in Istanbul hits 75 percent
Retail prices rose by 74.88 percent in December 2023 from a year ago in Istanbul, accelerating from the annual increase of 73.89 percent in the previous month, the data from the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (İTO).
The pace of month-on-month increase in retail prices slowed from 3.79 percent in November 2023 to 3.52 percent last month.

Foreign trade deficit shrinks 33 percent
Türkiye's foreign trade deficit declined by 32.6 percent in November from a year ago to $5.92 billion, the data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) have shown.
Exports climbed 5.2 percent year-on-year to $23 billion, while imports were down 5.7 percent compared with November 2022 to $28.9 billion.
