The civil war within Albania's main opposition Democratic Party worsened over the weekend after an assembly on Saturday summoned by former DP leader Sali Berisha voted to change the party's statute, and dismiss the current leader, Lulzim Basha - who has, in turn, dismissed some party members that participated in the assembly.

Albania's opposition centre-right Democratic Party has referred the Ministry of Education and the Prime Minister to prosecutors for what it calls a brazen attempt to use schools to collect voter information for election-related purposes.

Albania's parliament has voted to set up a National Council for Civil Society in an attempt to create an organized structure that includes the voice of civil society in the policy-making process.
