Emergency Committee adopts proposal for 30-day extension of state of alert

The National Committee for Emergency Situations adopted on Monday the decision regarding the 30-day extension, starting January 13, of the state of alert in Romania as well as of the specific measures to prevent the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 infection that have been in force until now. The decision will be submitted to the government for approval in Tuesday's meeting.

Prime Minister Florin Citu promises Romanians, on New Year's Eve, that he and his team will "do everything" for the economy to recover in 2021. "We cannot do this alone. Coronavirus/4,637 new cases of COVID-19 from 24,242 tests in past 24 hrs, death toll hits 15,469

As many as 4,637 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 have been recorded in the last 24 hours, following 24,242 national tests, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) reports on Tuesday. These are cases that have not previously had a positive test, the GCS states. As of Tuesday, 623,066 cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus have been confirmed in Romania.
