Kosovo police have increased patrols in the streets and started intensive screening of individuals and vehicles at borders amid growing fears of terrorist attacks.

Prime Minister Isa Mustafa and security officials announced a state of alert and exceptional measures at a Kosovo Security Council meeting on Monday.

Kosovo police on Wednesday morning detonated a hand grenade found in the courtyard of the Constitutional Court.

The Court was evacuted and the area surrounded while the police carried out the controlled explosion of the hand grenade.

No one was injured and no damage was casued by the device.

Police in Kosovo fired tear gas on Oct. 12 on dozens of protesters who threw stones and smashed windows after a leading opposition MP was taken in for questioning.

Serbia, Kosovo police discuss shared threats

The first meeting between the police chiefs of Serbia and Kosovo is being hailed as a major step in the region's fight against organised crime.

Police have boosted their presence throughout Kosovo in preparation for the main religious holiday of the Serbian minority.

Ice thrown at Serbian Pilgrims in Gjakova

Kosovo police arrested two members of the nationalist Vetevendosje Movement for throwing ice at a bus carrying pilgrims to Serbian Orthodox ceremonies in the western town of Gjakova.

Kosovo Police said the unnamed imam arrested in Gjilan was suspected of “encouraging jihad”, meaning “holy war”. They also said they found the cleric hiding in woods near his home.

Both arrested persons have allegedly recruited people for terrorist purposes and incited racial, religious and ethnic hatred.

Djuric told Serbian public service broadcaster RTS that Kosovo police said they were ordered by Pristina authorities not to allow him to enter Kosovo on Tuesday.

Kosovo police announced they had arrested 11 people suspected of abusing official authority and economic authorization, and of fraud, related to the privatization of a company.

Baki Kelani, police spokesperson, said the arrests concerned the privatization of Fan, a company based in Podujeva/Podujevo.

The company was sold off by the Privatization Agency of Kosovo, PAK.

Kosovo Police said the investigation into Monday night's attack on three Serbian police officers, one male and two females, is ongoing, but they had no information on the motive.

“The officers survived the attack and are out of danger. The investigation will reveal the motives,” Baki Kelani, police spokesperson, told Balkan Insight.

Serb members of Kosovo police ambushed in north

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA -- Unknown perpetrators late on Monday ambushed and opened fire on a patrol of the Kosovo police, wounding three police officers.

According to reports, all three are Serbs.

The incident happened in the village of Banje in the Zubin Potok municipality.
