Turkish Airlines to resume flights from UK, Denmark

Flag carrier Turkish Airlines will resume flights from the U.K. and Denmark, the company's CEO said on April 22. 

"Based on the decision taken by our authorities, the passengers from the U.K. and Denmark will be allowed to arrive in Turkey on condition of performing negative PCR test that was done in the last 72 hours," Bilal Ekşi said on Twitter.

Byzantine church’s base ground undergoing restoration

A 1,550-year-old former Byzantine church's base ground, which has been unearthed in the ancient city of Stratonikeia in the southwestern province of Muğla, is being renovated together with the colored marble pieces found during the works.

Included in the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2015, the ancient city of Stratonikeia was home to many civilizations.

Global travelers to Turkey to need negative virus test

Turkey will require all international passengers arriving by air starting from Dec. 28, and all travelers arriving by air, land, and sea routes starting from Dec. 30 to submit negative PCR virus test results obtained within the last 72 hours before their departure, the country's health minister said on Dec. 25. 

Turkey bans flights from UK amid new virus strain

Turkey late on Dec. 20 joined other European countries in banning flights from the U.K. and other countries due to concerns over a new fast-moving coronavirus strain. 

"It has been reported that the rate of transmission has increased in the U.K. with the mutation of the coronavirus," Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca wrote on Twitter.

Bilal's relatives took drastic action. Speedily, they collected funds to send him to hospital in Turkey, a trip organised by one of several companies operating in the booming air ambulance industry.

"When my life was in danger, we took the decision to get me to Turkey on a chartered flight," he told BIRN.
