Snow chains mandatory across Attica from Friday night

Police have said that from 10 p.m. Friday it will be mandatory for all categories of cars to be equipped with snow chains on the entire road network in Attica, unless they have special tires for use in snow.

The requirement, which follows a severe weather warning from the National Meteorological Service, will apply until further notice.

In addition, vehicles more than 3.5 tons in weight will be prohibited from a number of roads in Attica, regardless of whether they have snow chains.

From 10 p.m. Friday night to 4 p.m. Saturday, such vehicles will be banned from the Athens-Lamia in both directions, from the Kalyftaki interchange in Kifissia to the northern border of Attica, at the 57th kilometer mark.

They will also be prohibited on the Elefsina-Thiva road.
