U.S. Lawmakers Reach Deal for Senate Vote on Russia Sanctions

U.S. lawmakers reached an agreement on Wednesday that paves the way for the U.S. Senate to pass a bill as soon as this week to impose new sanctions on Russia, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee said, despite the objections of President Donald Trump's administration, Reuters reports.

US Senate Committee Backs Montenegro's Bid To Join NATO

BELGRADE - The U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee has approved a resolution supporting Montenegro's membership in NATO, sending it to the full Senate for a vote.

The committee backed the small Balkan state's bid to join the military alliance last year, but it did not come up for a vote in the full Senate, where a two-thirds majority is required for approval of new NATO members.

The US Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved a resolution on Wednesday supporting Montenegro's accession to NATO, in a second attempt to push the Balkan's country membership bid.

The committee passed a resolution in December 2016, but the full Senate did not reach consensus on Montenegro before the end of the year.

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic thanked on Friday American Senator Bob Corker for advocating preserving stability in the Balkans.

During a joint news conference in Belgrade he also "voiced concern over the situation in Pristina, which was, among others, hindering the implementation of the Brussels deal," Tanjug reported.
