Defense Minister Panos Kammenos, who also heads the junior party in Greece's coalition, Independent Greeks (ANEL), has asked for criminal charges to be brought against a lawmaker with the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party.

Parliament Speaker Nikos Voutsis on Friday called an emergency meeting of the House presidents, temporarily banning the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party over comments made by one of its MPs.

A deposition by Golden Dawn lawmaker Constantinos Barbarousis was postponed to June 25 on Wednesday. The extension was granted by two special magistrates leading a probe into the ultra nationalist party’s activities.

The decision was made following a request for the dismissal of the two magistrates filed by Golden Dawn leader, Nikos Michaloliakos on Tuesday.

Parliament is to vote on lifting the immunity from prosecution of another four lawmakers of the ultra-right Golden Dawn, and a former MP, on Wednesday, House Speaker Evangelos Meimarakis has informed the magistrates heading a criminal probe into the party.
