Upon entering the building, Udrea said she will sustain the denunciation.

Romania's High Court has placed the former minister and presidential candidate Elena Udrea under arrest for 30 days facing three charges of influence peddling.

Prosecutors say Udrea received money to help a private firm extend its contract with the state for the lease of Microsoft IT licenses for schools in 2009. Her former husband, Dorin Cocos, is under arrest on similar charges.

Apart from former Communications Minister Gabriel Sandu and businessman Dorin Cocos, the Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) too took advantage of the amounts assigned by the Ministry of Communications for Microsoft software licenses, with PDL benefiting from the payment of election materials, argue the anti-corruption prosecutors in the report where they request Elena Udrea's remand in custody.

The High Court of Cassation and Justice has decided to release from custody the ex-Minister of Economy Adriean Videanu, currently under investigation by the National Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA), in a file in which the ex-Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) Alina Bica also has a major role.

National Liberal Party (PNL) Co-Chairman Vasile Blaga on Saturday said that Adriean Videanu resigned from the chairman office of the Liberals' organisation in Bucharest, as his party membership was also suspended, after he was placed under preventive arrest.

Former Directorate for the Investigation of Organised Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) Director Alina Bica, former Economy Minister Adriean Videanu, businessman Dorin Cocos and his son, Alin Cocos, as well as Ionut Mihailescu, former adviser to Alina Bica, were placed under preventive arrest for 30 days, as decided by the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ).

Candidate in the presidential elections for the People's Movement Party (PMP) Elena Udrea said Tuesday evening that there is no possibility whatsoever for her to be linked to the Microsoft affair, emphasizing that she did not know of the affairs of her former husband Dorin Cocos.

President Traian Basescu said on Tuesday he is ruling out the possibility to have received money from Microsoft in the electoral campaign in 2009, when he won his second term.

'I rule out this possibility, that someone might have come and given me money from Microsoft for the campaign. It's childish', Basescu told Adevarul Live.
