King Charles III was officially announced as Britain's monarch on Sept. 10, in a ceremony steeped in ancient tradition and political symbolism- and, for the first time, broadcast live.

Citizens say goodbye to the beloved queen, and her son, the new British king Charles III (73), will address the nation today for the first time in that capacity. He has now become a leader not only in the United Kingdom, but also in 14 other Commonwealth countries, including Australia and Canada. He became the head of the British armed forces, and will also head other services.

British Prince Charles and his son Prince William traveled urgently to Queen Elizabeth II's castle residence in Scotland. The Prince of Wales traveled to Balmoral with his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, a spokesman for his royal residence said.
Kensington Palace confirmed that Prince William also traveled to Balmoral.

Queen Elizabeth II, Britain's longest-reigning monarch and a rock of stability across much of a turbulent century, has died. She was 96.
