Bulgaria Beefs Up Security at Internal EU Borders

Bulgaria has bolstered security at both external and internal borders of the EU, the Interior Ministry's Chief Secretary Georgi Kostov has said.

Kostov has told the Bulgarian National Television that "100% border control" is currently being implemented in relation to the attacks that killed at least 31 people in Brussels on Tuesday.

Palestinian Sought by Israel Dies in Bulgaria

Bulgarian authorities are investigating the death of a Palestinian citizen, Omar Nayef Zayed, who was found in a critical condition in the grounds of the Palestinian embassy in Sofia on Friday.

He died at the scene before the paramedics could take him to hospital, the Secretary-General of the Interior Ministry, Georgi Kostov, said. This was later confirmed by the embassy.

A farmers market is open in Bulgaria's capital Sofia on Sunday, bringing together 50 producers from across the country, officials have said.

Chief Secretary of the Interior Ministry Georgi Kostov did not exclude the possibility that the suspicious luggage found in a minibus parked outside terminal 1 of the airport in the Bulgarian capital on Tuesday had been in contact with explosives.

The information of a suspected bomb in the vehicle closed the terminal for hours on Tuesday, with all flights redirected to terminal 2.
