Turkey appoints new ambassadors

Turkey's Foreign Ministry has begun appointing new envoys to missions abroad, with the ministry's spokesperson, Hami Aksoy, being be assigned as Ankara's ambassador to Belgrade.

Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu had a phone conversation with some ambassadors to notify them on their new positions and extended his best wishes, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Dec. 8.

Turkish presidential spokesperson criticizes US anti-ISIL envoy over 'terror' remarks

Turkish Presidential Spokesperson İbrahim Kalın on July 31 criticized statements by U.S. anti-Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) coalition envoy Brett McGurk that linked Turkey to terror groups operating in northwestern Syria.        

Family minister's sister picked as Turkish ambassador

Sister of the Family Minister Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya, Ayşe Sayan, will be appointed as Turkey's ambassador to Kuwait according to a new degree of the Foreign Ministry. 

Ayşe Sayan was formed deputy undersecretary of the family ministry, yet she resigned after her sister was assigned is the minister. 

Turkey stresses opposition to Kurdish independence vote

Turkey reiterated its opposition to an independence referendum in the Kurdish region of northern Iraq on July 19, following media reports that Ankara had softened its stance.      

Last month, the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) announced it would hold a referendum on independence from Baghdad on Sept. 25.

Turkey, Austria in fresh row over coup anniversary event

Turkey and Austria have engaged in another row over an event marking the first anniversary of the July 2016 coup attempt, with the Turkish Economy Ministry denying reports that it requested the event in Austria. Vienna had said that it barred Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci from entering the country for such an event.
