Bulgaria will ease some of its measures against the spread of Covid-19 from April 1, Health Minister Kostadin Angelov told a briefing on March 30.

Currently, heightened measures that came into effect on March 22 are due to expire on March 31.

"Although the number of coronavirus patients in hospital is higher than during the previous wave of coronavirus the hospital system is able to handle the surge," Health Minister Kostadin Angelov declared at a working meeting of the Council of Ministers.

Chief State Health Inspector Angel Kunchev is expecting the peak of coronavirus infections to be reached this or next week.

The government and health authorities are considering loosening of the anti-epidemic measures is under after March 31. This was announced at a briefing by Health Minister Kostadin Angelov.

Most likely, students will return to school on April 12 - after spring break. Kostadin Angelov together with Minister of Education Krasimir Valchev will draw up a list for all grades.

Bulgaria expects 230,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines by the end of this week and 700,000 doses by the end of April. Sufficient amounts of Remdesivir are provided, which is used in the treatment of coronavirus, the health system also has all the necessary medications, disinfectants and oxygen for the treatment of patients with the novel virus.

Bulgaria is already second in coronavirus mortality in the world after Hungary. That's what Head of the National Operational Headquarters Chairman Gen. Ventsislav Mutafchiiski said during the regular weekly briefing at the Council of Ministers.

According to him, our country has surpassed the peak of November 23, 2020, and the infected are now 679 per 100,000.

Bulgaria will have to make some extraordinary effort in the coming months if it wants to protect its population from the coronavirus through vaccination.

 Current data show that Boyko Borissov's government has bought such a small number of doses that no more than 36% of Bulgarians could receive two doses at the end of June.

"Until March 31, the strictest anti-epidemic measures will be implemented because people's lives and health are most important. The measures should apply to all places where there is a crowding of people such as large stores, schools, restaurants."
