The President of the Hellenic Republic, Prokopis Pavlopoulos attended religious celebrations in honour of St. Dimitrios, the patron saint of Thessaloniki, Wednesday. The Greek President arrived a little after 11am at the Church of St. Dimitrios, where a large crowd greeted him with warm applause.

The conservative main opposition New Democracy (ND) party has yet to count 100% of the votes more than 48 hours after the last ballot was cast. The 400,000 voters who showed up to show their enthusiasm and belief in the party are left wondering as to why they still don’t know the final results of the liberal faction’s leadership elections on December 20.

24 hours after the polls closed for the leadership elections held by the conservative New Democracy (ND) party on Sunday, central election committee (KEFE) chief Yiannis Tragakis announced the 85% of the results showing a clear lead for former ND interim leader Vangelis Meimarakis at 39.51%, followed with more than 10 units difference by Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and Apostolos Tzitzikostas at 21.15%

Greece’s conservative main opposition New Democracy (ND) party failed to elect a party leader on Sunday, December 20. This means that a runoff vote is to take place on January 10 after former interim party leader Vangelis Meimarakis garnered most of the votes but not the absolute majority according to the party’s initial estimates as official results won’t be available until Monday afternoon.

Former Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis and his wife Natasha Pazaiti showed up to vote for the conservative main opposition New Democracy party elections at 9.30 a.m. on Sunday morning. They voted at the electoral center housed at the neoclassical building at the corner of Vas. Olgas and 25 Martiou streets.
