Slovenian tourism to focus on more demanding markets
Ljubljana – Slovenian tourism is currently successfully recovering after the Covid-19 pandemic but there are many uncertainties about the autumn and winter ahead, Maja Pak, the head of the Slovenian Tourism Board (STO), told the STA. Still, the industry is united about the future course – attracting more demanding guests and offering high quality products.
Slovenia hosting Transformational Travel Council conference
Ljubljana – Slovenia will be the first European country to host the annual conference of the Transformational Travel Council (TTC), a US collective of tourist organization and businesses, set to take place in the Logar Valley in from 9 to 12 October.

The 27th Tour of Slovenia officially kicked-off today in Ptuj and will finish on Sunday in Novo mesto. 139 cyclists from 20 teams - 4 of them are part of the elite World Tour - are on the start list. Special guests of the yesterday's press conference were Tadej Pogačar, Matej Mohorič & Diego Ulissi, and they all predict an exciting race.
Tour of Slovenia seen as major promotional opportunity
Celje – The 27th Tour of Slovenia will start next Wednesday, taking riders, including Slovenia’s star Tadej Pogačar, along 800 kilometres in five stages, from north-eastern to central and south-western Slovenia. Preparations are fully under way for the race, which stakeholders also see as an opportunity for the country’s tourist promotion.
Tourism with cautious optimism ahead of summer season
Ljubljana – Slovenian tourism providers are cautiously optimistic ahead of the summer tourism season in light of a major decline in the epidemic. Roughly half the accommodation facilities are open, whereas the bulk of the other half will welcome guests again in early June.
Slovenia wins five Golden City Gate gold awards in tourism promotion
Ljubljana – The Slovenian Tourism Board (STO) received four gold and three silver awards in this year’s Golden City Gate international competition, which celebrates excellence in promotional campaigns and features. Another gold award went to the Slovenian western region of Posočje.
The award ceremony was part of the international ITB Berlin Now travel trade show.
Tourism season similar to 2020 expected as companies call for extension of aid
Ljubljana – The Slovenian Tourist Board (STO) projects that Slovenia’s summer tourism season will be similar to last year’s in terms of visitor numbers. Companies in the sector are already urging the government to extend certain aid measures, saying many are on the brink of ruin.
European Region of Gastronomy title gives hope to tourism sector
Ljubljana – After a very rough year that saw the coronavirus pandemic halve tourist arrivals, Slovenia’s tourism sector is in for another demanding year in 2021. However, the country holds the title the European Region of Gastronomy this year, bringing hope that the sector will once again be able to open.
STO wins tourism video competition
Ljubljana – A video by the Slovenian Tourism Board (STO) has won first place in the ETC-CIFFT Video Competition, organised by the European Travel Commission (ETC) and the International Committee of Tourism Film Festivals (CIFFT). Titled Time to Stay Home. Turn to Nature and Dream, the video promotes social responsibility amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Star cyclist Tadej Pogačar becomes tourism ambassador
Ljubljana – Cyclist Tadej Pogačar, winner of the Tour de France, is the latest in line of top athletes to become an ambassador of Slovenia promoting the country as a tourist destination. The athlete will join forces with the Tourism Board (STO) to call attention to what he considers perfect spots across the country for cycling and leisure activities.
