Prosecutor seeks two aggravated life sentences for 13 including singer Taş over Gülen links

An Istanbul prosecutor sought two aggravated life sentences each for 13 suspects including popular Turkish singer Atilla Taş and journalists Murat Aksoy and Gökçe Fırat Çulhaoğlu over their alleged involvement in the July 15, 2016 coup attempt, in a fresh indictment submitted to court on June 6, Doğan News Agency has reported.

Members of Reporters Without Borders (RSF) and Parisian street artist C215 painted the portraits of 10 imprisoned Turkish journalists outside the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on May 29, urging the court to intercede on behalf of journalists detained in the country.

Euro court to give priority to daily Cumhuriyet case

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has decided to prioritize the case of the jailed journalists and executives of Turkish daily newspaper Cumhuriyet, stating that it will investigate the case "as soon as possible."

Previously, the court had made the same decision about jailed Turkish journalists Ahmet Altan, Mehmet Altan, Atilla Taş and Murat Aksoy.
