The Bosnian state court in Sarajevo on Thursday acquitted Spomenko Novovic and Borislav Pjano of the murders, inhumane treatment, illegal detention and robbery of Bosniak civilians in the villages of Dragocava, Sube and Potpece near Foca during the war from April to September 1992.

The trial of Bosnian Serb ex-fighters Spomenko Novovic and Borislav Pjano for committing crimes against humanity in the Foca area opened at the state court in Sarajevo on Tuesday.

Novovic and Pjano are charged with killing, illegally detaining, robbing and mistreating Bosniak civilians in the villages of Dragocava, Sube and Potpece from April to September 1992.

The Bosnian state prosecution on Wednesday charged Borislav Pjano and Spomenko Novovic with committing crimes against humanity as part of a widespread and systematic attack by Bosnian Serb troops, police and paramilitary units on Bosniak civilians in the Foca area in 1992.

Novovic personally killed five Bosniak civilians, the prosecution said in a statement.

State Investigation and Protection Agency officers on Wednesday arrested Spomenko Novovic and Borislav Pjano, who is a serving police officer in the eastern Bosnian town of Foca, on suspicion of killing, robbing and abusing Bosniak civilians in the summer of 1992.
