Ursula von der Leyen: The European Union does not Want a Hard Brexit

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said she would extend the negotiation term for Brexit if London gives a good reason for that, Reuters reported.

In an interview with several European newspapers, including the German Zeitung, von der Leyen said the EU will wait for the new British Prime Minister to be elected first and then try to negotiate.

British Prime Minister Theresa May has congratulated Kyriakos Mitsotakis on becoming Greek premier following New Democracy's victory in Sunday's snap election.
During a phone call on Tuesday, the two conservative leaders reportedly discussed recent developments in the Eastern Mediterranean. Mitsotakis reportedly stressed the EU's key role in the region.

Today, the two candidates for the final vote as the leader of the British Conservative Party will become known. After the last third round, four candidates survived, including Boris Johnson, who will surely end up till the final round. British Prime Minister Theresa May resigned today. At 19:00 Bulgarian time the race for the leadership position of the Conservatives officially begins.

13 are the candidates for May's successor, and the procedure for choosing a new conservative leader will continue until the last week of July.

The new party leader will become Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
