CSAT: Romania to contribute nearly 200 troops, 50 police, gendarme officers to Afghanistan mission
Romania's Supreme Council for National Defence (CSAT) has decided that, depending on the NATO's final decision, Romania will contribute some 200 troops and 50 police and gendarme officers to the training, counselling and assistance mission in Afghanistan.

Defence Council to discuss Romania's mandate for NATO summit
The Supreme Council of National Defence (CSAT) meets at 4 p.m. on Wednesday to discuss Romania's mandate at the 2014 NATO Summit, a release of the Presidential Administration informed.
President Traian Basescu will chair the sitting.

President's brother to remain in custody
The Court of Appeals of Bucharest rejected an appeal of Mircea Basescu on Friday, and ordered him to remain in custody up to 30 days. The ruling is final.
Mircea Basescu is the brother of Romanian President Traian Basescu; he is being accused by the National Anti-corruption Directorate of influence peddling.

ALDE leader appeals to PNL members to save identity of Romanian liberalism
The leader of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) group of the European Parliament Guy Verhofstadt appealed on Thursday to the members of National Liberal Party (PNL) of Romania to save the identity of Romanian liberalism and make a correct decision in this sense at the party's congress at the end of this week.
PM Ponta: The plan is for Basescu to lead the party created after PNL-PDL merger
The Prime Minister and national leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Victor Ponta on Wednesday evening stated that the new political entity to result form a merger of the National Liberal Party (PNL) and the Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) will have Traian Basescu as its new leader, after this autumn's presidential election.
Parliament asks for President's resignation
Romanian Parliament has on Wednesday adopted with 344 votes for and 17 abstentions a political declaration that requests President Traian Basescu resign from his position as head of state, following his brother's involvement in acts of corruption, a release of the Chamber of Deputies to AGERPRES informs.
