Turkish jets hit PKK militants installing explosives in Turkey's southeast

Turkish warplanes have targeted outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants as they were installing explosives in the southeastern province of Hakkari. 

Three militants were killed as they were installing home-made explosives on a road in the Şemdinli district on March 27. 

Elderly population in Turkey increases by 17 percent over five years

Turkey's elderly population has risen by 17.1 percent over the past five years, according to statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) on March 16. 

TÜİK stated that the population of people over 65 years old in Turkey had risen to 6,651,503 in 2016, up from 5,682,003 in 2012.

Turkey has been carrying out air strikes against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in northern Iraq in order to stop militants from infiltrating into Turkey when the weather conditions improve and as a part of security measures for the upcoming referendum on shifting Turkey to an executive presidency.

Property sales stabilized in 2016 in Turkey amid sharp fall in foreign interest

House sales in Turkey increased in a modest trend by 4 percent in 2016 compared to the previous year reaching 1.3 million, although sales to foreigners dropped sharply, according to a fresh data from the Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜİK).

Sales to foreigners declined by 20.3 percent compared to the previous year, dropping to 18,189. 

2,085 militants "neutralized" since launch of Turkey's Operation Euphrates Shield: Turkish military

The total number of the "neutralized" militants in northern Syria since the ongoing Turkey-led Operation Euphrates Shield was launched last Aug., is at least 2,085, according to the latest data of the Turkish military. 

1,775 of these neutralized are ISIL militants, the weekly statement of the Turkish general staff said. 

Hotel for pregnant women mitigates bad weather in Turkey's southeast

A hotel formed for pregnant women in the eastern province of Hakkari has become an important sanctuary in the face of the frequently bad weather in the province. 

The "mother hotel" has served a total of 907 women ahead of birth who might not be able to reach a hospital in time due to bad weather that often closes roads.
