Rocket projectile fired from Syria hits Turkey's Kilis, no casualties reported

A rocket projectile fired from Syria hit an empty field in the southeastern province of Kilis on April 22, as the border province continues to be the target of attacks originating from Syria.

One Katyusha projectile landed at an empty field in Kilis' Yavuz Sultan Selim neighborhood at around 2:35 p.m. on April 22. No casualties were reported in the incident.

Number of tanks increased across Syrian border against ISIL

The number of the tanks deployed along the Turkish-Syrian border has been increased as a precaution against recent Katyusha rockets fired by militants of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). 

With the new tanks, sent from Gaziantep Fifth Armored Brigade, tanks are now situated more closely together along the border.

State housing agency TOK? building three 'container cities' for Syrians in south Turkey

The Housing Development Administration of Turkey (TOK?) has been building three new "giant container cities" for Syrians in the southern Turkish provinces of Hatay and Kahramanmara?, hosting up to 40,000 refugees.

The container city being built in Kahramanmara? has already led to angry protests from local Alevis, who fear that the province's sensitive demography will be unsettled.

Merkel set to visit Turkey next week

German Chancellor Angela Merkel will visit Turkey next week with representatives from the European Union, German government spokesperson Steffen Seibert said on April 15. 

Speaking to journalists, Seibert said European Council President Donald Tusk and European Commission First Vice-President Frans Timmermans will accompany Merkel during her visit on April 23.
