564 Bulgarian Villages Had 0-9 Residents in end-2013

Out of a total of 5009 villages in Bulgaria, 564 have a population of 0-9 people, according to the National Statistical Institute (NSI).

According to NSI data by December 31, 2013, there were a total of 395 settlements with a population of up to 9 people, while 169 settlements had zero permanent residents and 60 settlements had one permanent resident.

A project for a high-speed train connecting Bulgaria's Varna to Romania's Bucharest is being prepared at the National Railway Infrastructure Company.

The first stage of the project envisages the reconstruction of the rail line Varna – Ruse, for which a tender procedure is to be called in the second half of the year, according to reports of Trud daily.
