2007–08 world food price crisis

World food prices have fallen for a fifth consecutive month, partly thanks to the resumption of exports from Ukraine's Black Sea ports, a UN agency said on Sept. 2.

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Aug. 20 thanked Türkiye for its "pivotal role" in the signing of the recent grain export deal.

His remarks came during a joint press conference with Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar at the Joint Coordination Center. 

World food prices declined in April for the third month in a row, affected by the economic and logistical negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the UN Food Agency reported on Thursday, BNR reported, citing Reuters.

House sale prices are projected to continue rising in 2020, as market professionals consider the existing momentum to be sustainable.

The average growth rate this year is already approaching 10 percent compared to 2018, although in the center of Athens, where demand is greatest, asking prices have risen by 30 percent.

The agricultural producer price index increased by 5.3%  for the second quarter of 2019 compared to the same quarter of 2018, the NSI reported. The price index of crop production increased by 5.8% and of livestock production - by 4.6%. Compared to the previous year, prices of agricultural products increased by 4.1%, in crop production by 4.9% and in animal husbandry - by 3.0%.

World food prices declined in November to their lowest level in more than two years, led by declines in vegetable oils, dairy and cereal, the United Nations food agency said on Dec. 6.

World food prices slipped in September from the month before, with only sugar posting a rise, the United Nations food agency said on Oct. 4.

Syria is planning to import around 1.5 million tons of mostly Russian wheat this year, as local wheat procurement is expected at around half a million tons, the country's internal trade minister said on June 26.

Prices of both domestic cattle and red meat have continued to rise in Turkey despite ongoing imports worth nearly $1.3 billion since last year. 

It is unacceptable for Turkey to see double-digit inflation rates, a top official has admitted, adding that the government's food committee would soon hold a meeting to take immediate measures to ease skyrocketing food prices. 

"This is an unacceptable situation," Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Şimşek said at a meeting in Istanbul on May 5.
