Accession of Serbia to the European Union

BELGRADE - The EU integration of the Western Balkans has had a crucial influence on improving regional cooperation and settling issues through dialogue, Serbia's Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said in Bled, Slovenia, on Tuesday.

BELGRADE -- Ivica Dačić has welcomed Federica Mogherini's appointment as new EU foreign policy chief, and Donald Tusk's appointment as president of the European Council.

The Serbian foreign minister stressed in his reaction that "both supported Serbia's EU integration."

BERLIN - The first conference on the Western Balkans has been held in Berlin, sponsored by the German government, and the leaders of the region were given support for their countries' EU integration, with an additional note that the pace of that integration depended on themselves.

BELGRADE - Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs met in Belgrade Thursday with Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Oscar Benedict, who stressed the importance of aligning Serbia’s foreign policy to the principles of EU’s external policies.

BELGRADE - Serbia's EU accession talks are progressing well, but Belgrade will have to comply with the joint foreign policy at the time of joining the EU, says Peter Stano, spokesperson of EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele.

Since the start of Serbia's accession talks with the EU, 18 out of 35 chapters have been subject to analytical screening, Stano said.
