Free events at ancient sites… by the light of the full moon!
140 events across dozens of archeological sites and museums around Greece are being held to celebrate the full moon on August 29. Apart from the concerts, theater performances, exhibitions, film screenings and other events there will be admission to all sites free of charge.
August full moon with tango at Acropolis Museum
The Acropolis Museum will celebrate the August Full Moon on Saturday, August 29, 2015 with the music and dance event titled ‘Tango Acropolis’.
From 8.30 p.m. until 11.30 p.m., the Museum’s entrance courtyard will turn into a dance floor where world-renowned artists will present tango choreographies before whirling the public into a world of dance and music.

Acropolis Museum celebrates 6th birthday
Both Athenians and tourists from abroad have embraced it as one of their favorite places, and numbers tell the whole story. Around 8 million people have visited the new Acropolis Museum since 2009, with an average of 4,000 people per day.

Every Saturday and every Sunday, the Acropolis Museum welcomes visitors to its Virtual Reality Theater where visitors have the opportunity to learn more about the Acropolis monuments from brief 3D video screenings. The ten-minute film “Acropolis in Antiquity” presents the topography and the monuments of the Rock of the Acropolis during the prehistoric, the Archaic and the classical period.
A Greek fiesta on International Museum Day (May 18) and beyond
International Museum Day has been celebrated worldwide on May 18 every year since 1977. The day is aimed at raising awareness on how important museums are in the development of society. Greece, a hub of culture, could not be missing from celebrations with a number of activities planned at museums around the country.

A free talk on “Images, Beliefs, Cults” is part of the Museum’s alternating Saturday talks with presentations in Greek at 8.30 p.m. and 10.30 p.m. There will be 35 people per talk.
