Greek airline Sky Express said on Tuesday it had signed an agreement with Air France KLM to cooperate on flights connecting Paris and Amsterdam with the Greek islands.

Tourism accounts for about a quarter of economic output in Greece, which saw a record number of about 33 million visitors last year.

The first Air France plane from Paris landed on Monday afternoon at the Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade.

Air France-KLM boss Jean-Marc Janaillac announced his resignation on May 4 after staff at the carrier's French operations rejected a pay deal aimed at ending weeks of strikes.

Crews and ground staff are staging their eighth day of walkouts since February. They are seeking a 6 percent pay rise. Their wages have been frozen since 2011.

Air France said on Tuesday it had raised its pay offer to unions in a bid to end strikes that have already cost the airline 170 million euros ($210 million), Reuters reported.

Air France said hundreds of its flights would be cancelled on Tuesday as pilots, cabin crew and ground staff pursue a sixth day of strikes aimed at securing higher pay, The Local writes.

The walkout has affected international and domestic travel, with a quarter of all flights set to be cancelled on Tuesday.

Flights to and from Paris are being cancelled by Air France, according to the Sofia Airport. The reason is a strike of Air France employees, including pilots, crews and ground staff. They insist on a 6% salary increase and hold a series of one-day strikes since February. Today, at 17:35, Sofia had to fly AF1789 to Paris "Charles de Gaulle".

Air France unions representing both flight crews and ground staff announced on Sunday a new two-day strike for April 10th and 11th, the latest move in its pay dispute with the French flag carrier since February, reported the Local.fr
