Plaque commemorating Marfin Bank victims to be unveiled Saturday

A plaque commemorating the victims of a firebomb attack on a bank in central Athens during anti-austerity riots in May 2010 will be unveiled on Saturday, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said Wednesday.

In a message on Twitter, Mitsotakis invited Greek party leaders to attend the event as a gesture of solidarity against violence and division.

Opposition parties leave parliamentary session in protest

Lawmakers of the main opposition SYRIZA, center-left Movement for Change, the Communist Party and anti-austerity MeRA25 left from an ongoing parliamentary debate on a omnibus bill in Parliament on Thursday, protesting over the submission of two last-minute provisions from Labor Minister Yiannis Vroutsis.

Athens trolley bus drivers join general strike on November 28

There will be no trolley bus service on Wednesday, November 28, as drivers on Thursday announced their intention to walk off the job, joining a 24-hour anti-austerity strike called by the country's private sector union, GSEE.

City bus workers will also join the action in the early morning and late at night, meaning that services will run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on that day.
