Balloon propaganda campaigns in Korea

North Korea sent hundreds more trash-carrying balloons over the border, Seoul's military said Monday, after Kim Jong Un's powerful sister warned of further responses if the South keeps up its "psychological warfare."

South Korea announced Sunday that it would resume loudspeaker propaganda campaigns against the North, after Pyongyang sent a fresh barrage of trash-filled balloons across the border.

"We will install loudspeakers against North Korea today and carry out the broadcast," the president's office said in a statement.

South Korea has issued a warning to residents near the North Korean border to stay vigilant after the discovery of over 90 balloons carrying various items, including garbage and excrement. The South Korean military has advised people to avoid these balloons and report them to the authorities.

North Korea has sent balloons full of trash, toilet paper and suspected animal faeces into the South, local media reports said Wednesday, with Seoul's military slamming Pyongyang for their "low class" actions.

A South Korean activist said Wednesday he had launched thousands of copies of Hollywood film "The Interview" into North Korea by balloon, ignoring dire threats of reprisals from Pyongyang.
      
The capital has labelled the Seth Rogen comedy about a fictional CIA plot to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un, a "wanton act of terror".
