BELGRADE - Celebrated Belgian stage director Jan Fabre on Thursday received the Bitef Festival's Mira Trailovic Grand Prix and the 40th Politika Best Director Award for the 24-hour play Mount Olympus - To Glorify the Cult of Tragedy.

Serbia's most prestigious theatre festival, BITEF, has dismissed the stated reasons for Kirill Serebrennikov's detention in Russia as unacceptable and has expressed the hope that other, political reasons, are not hidden behind the charges.

Bitef has never been about making suggestions as to where theatre is going or should go.

BELGRADE -- Serbian theatrologist Jovan Ćirilov died aged 84 in Belgrade on Sunday, the Yugoslav Drama Theater (JDP) said in a statement.
