Two arrested after unfurling banner at AKP congress

Two people have been arrested on charges of making propaganda for an illegal far-left group after unfurling a banner demanding the trial of those responsible for killing the 15-year-old Gezi protests victim, Berkin Elvan, during a provincial congress of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in Istanbul.

Amnesty launches campaign to stop S Korea exporting tear gas to Turkey

Amnesty International has launched a petition campaign via change.org to stop South Korea exporting some 1.9 million tear gas canisters to Turkey.

The "Do Not Send Gas to Us" campaign states that the canisters are currently set to be handed to Turkey in mid-January.

Photojournalist Metin Göktepe, who was beaten to death while in police custody, was commemorated on the 19th anniversary of his death on Jan. 8, with family and friends holding banners in support of the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, a day after the attack on its Paris headquarters killed 12 people.

A 17-year-old high school student sentenced to three months in jail with four other teenagers by a Children’s Court for setting up tents during last year’s Gezi protests in İzmir has expressed his dismay for the ruling handed out Dec. 26.
