Experience Handel's awe-inspiring oratorio "Messiah," a perennial choral masterpiece that transcends time at the Athens Concert Hall (megaron.gr) on December 27.

Live-streamed from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, the Camerata - Friends of Music Orchestra will perform "Medea" by Czech composer Georg Benda on period instruments. The Camerata is conducted by the acclaimed harpsichordist and maestro Markellos Chryssicos, with actress Kora Karvouni in the title role of the dramatic heroine. Streaming starts at 8.30 p.m.

The Athens Camerata orchestra has appealed to Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to take action and provide a solution to the problems it has faced over the past four years which are threatening its very survival.

In an open letter to Tsipras, the orchestra's eight permanent musicians say that without a solution the orchestra will "slowly die."

The Armonia Atenea Orchestra, also known as the Camerata, welcomes the New Year in traditional Viennese style, with popular works by Johann Strauss II and Joseph Strauss on Wednesday, January 4. The ensemble is led by maestro George Petrou. Admission ranges from 14 to 50 euros (7.50 euros reduced). The concert is scheduled to start at 8.30 p.m.

The first open air chamber music festival in Turkey, "Eklisia Chamber Music Festival," started Aug. 3 in the Byzantine-era Eklisia Church in Bodrum's town of Gümü?lük.
