7 Hospitals Offer Free Screenings during the Prostate Cancer Awareness Month
In the Prostate Cancer Awareness Month 2017, seven state and municipal hospitals in Sofia are uniting their efforts to increase awareness about the importance of prostate screenings and early detection and prevention, according to the Bulgarian National Television.
Race for the Cure to be held in Athens this Sunday
This year's Greece Race for the Cure, a fundraising event for breast cancer, will take place Sunday morning, with a number of related activities taking place in the area around Zappeion Hall in central Athens. The race has been held in the Greek capital every year since 2009 and includes a 5 kilometer run and a 2 km walk.

New blood test for pancreatic cancer developed
Johns Hopkins scientists say they have developed a blood test that spots tumor-specific DNA and protein biomarkers for early-stage pancreatic cancer. The combined “liquid biopsy” identified the markers in the blood of 221 patients with the early-stage disease. Their results, published online the week of Sept.

Arizona Senator John McCain has brain cancer, according to the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix. Tests revealed a malignant tumor in McCain's skull following a surgery to remove a blood clot above McCain's left eye that took place last week.

Cuban-developed cancer vaccine tested on 39 cancer patients in Turkey
A Cuban-developed cancer vaccine that is not licensed in any country other than Argentina is now being tested on 39 cancer patients in five different health centers in Turkey.
Although not a cure, the drug named Racotumomab has been shown in previous clinical trials conducted in Argentina and Cuba to extend survival about two to three months on average.

Don't come to US, family support key in cancer treatment, Turkish Nobel laureate tells patients
Turkish-American scientist Aziz Sancar, the winner of the 2015 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, has advised cancer patients to stay in Turkey and not go to the U.S., stressing the importance of family support in overcoming cancer.
"I tell cancer patients: 'Do not come to America,'" Sancar said on May 8 during a program broadcast on the U.S.-based Voice of America radio station.
40 pct of deaths caused by diseases of circulatory system in 2016: Turkish Statistics Institute
Almost two-fifths of Turks who died in 2016 perished due to diseases of the circulatory system, according to a study by the Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜİK).
Some 39.8 percent of the 408,782 deaths in 2016 occurred due to circulatory diseases, followed by cancer at 19.7 percent and respiratory diseases at 11.9 percent.
