Celebration of the Greek Revolution

Hundreds of Greek Americans and guests gathered along Manhattan's Fifth Avenue in New York to partake in the annual Greek Independence Day Parade, which commemorates the anniversary of the Greek War of Independence against Ottoman rule.

This year's procession also paid tribute to the 50th anniversary of Turkey's invasion and occupation of Cyprus.

The annual parade of the Armed Forces for Greece's March 25th Independence Day concluded on Monday after passing the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in front of Parliament at Syntagma Square, where President Katerina Sakellaropoulou and political and military officials were gathered.

The parade also drew a crowd of thousands of onlookers waving Greek flags and cheering the troops on.

This past week Washington's attention has been on Cyprus and the humanitarian corridor from Gaza, from President Biden's letter thanking President Christodoulides, to the National Security Council's chief of staff visiting Cyprus. 

Cyprus is also going to be a central theme for diaspora Greeks as celebrations for Greek Independence Day take place. 

Democrats Abroad Greece (DAGR) have welcomed President Joe Biden's annual proclamation declaring March 25 as Greek Independence Day as "reaffirmation of the strong and growing ties between Greece and the United States."

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is set to visit the US most likely on April 4 for talks with American President Joe Biden.

According to government sources, Greece and the US are in discussions but the exact date has not been set.
